The process involves breaking down the mineral oil into its simplest molecules, which helps remove unwanted substances and impurities extremely high. Additionally, full synthetic oils are very consistent in their size and shape, providing superior lubrication. In this way, the oil functions at its best at low and high temperatures or extreme conditions.
What are the advantages of switching to synthetic oil over conventional motor oil?
- In general, synthetic engine oils are less volatile than mineral oils. As a result, less oil goes into the engine’s exhaust stream, causing pollution. It could also mean less makeup oil is needed between oil changes.
- Synthetics naturally have a higher viscosity index. As temperatures change during normal engine startup and normal operation, the viscosity will change less (more stable).
